Le Mont Dore

Massif du Sancy

The Massif du Sancy is dominated by the 1866m Puy du Sancy, highest peak in the Massif Central. The linked resorts of Le Mont Dore and Super-Besse offer 85km pistes.

Little known among UK skiers, there are actually a total of 37 ski resorts in the Massif Central region of France. The best known are the linked ski stations of Besse Super Besse and Le Mont Dore, Le Lioran and Chastreix. Many others are centres for cross-country skiing.

Resorts are best suited to families who love taking part in all manner of winter activities, not just skiing because you wouldn't consider them as being snow-sure. However, in a good year, the snow quality and unique scenery offer a good value alternative to big resorts elsewhere in France.
