Property & Living
Down in the French Massif Central region the popular family ski resort of Super-Besse is currently hard at work installing a major upgrade to its lift system. The familiar yellow cabins of the former Perdrix gondola lift are already just a memory, and the base and top stations are undergoing major reconstruction to adapt them to a brand new funitel-style system. Both departure and arrival stations are being transformed and new pylons installed, ready to receive an 8km continuous cable weighing in at around 65 tonnes. The cable installation will be accomplished with the use of a massive 100 tonne mobile crane.
Thirty-four new cabins will be supplied by Sigma, and will carry up to 3,000 skiers per hour, at speeds of up to 6m per second. The 2km journey (with a 467m ascent) will then be possible in 5min 50 at maximum speed.
